SUMMARY

Hello, my name is Robert Brumfield, I'm an independent 3D generalist and Tech Artist, with a Masters of Arts Degree in Technical Animation, and a BFA in Animation and 3D art - both from DePaul University in Chicago, IL. I've been interested and involved in this field since I was a high school freshman, and built my first computer and installed Unity, Unreal Development Kit, and Maya. Ever since then I've picked up new and different tools and skill sets, and remain passionate about this industry from both a technical and artistic view. Technical Animator (Contract) – Emotions Gaming June 2025 – Present

Responsible for rigging and implementing characters into Unreal Engine. Additionally configure animation blueprints, state machines, and other animation systems, including animation linking, upper and lower body animation blending, and dynamic additive animation. Additionally building layered animation systems for player and enemy interactions and weapon systems.

Contract Technical Animator – T’sarE 2024 – Present (Chicago IL)
Responsible for rigging and animating several different characters, both humanoid and non-humanoid, with varying levels of complexity and rigging needs. Worked on animating full animation libraries for various characters, including cycles and transitions. All characters and animations are created for and implemented into Unreal Engine 5, and all animations were created in Maya.

Adjunct Professor – College of Lake County 2023 – Present (Chicago IL)

Responsible for creating lesson plans, class modules/chapters, and homework projects for

200 level 3D Animation courses involving Cinema 4D, Substance Painter, and Photoshop. Delivering classes instructing students on topics such as the history of animation, the fundamentals of 3D animation and modeling, lighting, and rendering, proper modeling topology and animation principals. Managing several administrative duties including grading coursework, facilitating office hours, and managing class time work and discussions. 
 

Lead Technical Artist and Character Rigger / Animator – DePaul D.O.G.S 2022 - 2023 (Yesterlandia - Indie Game)

As one of the founding members of (DePaul Original Games Studios) D.O.G.S  , worked directly with Producers and Faculty to create the physical and art pipeline process for technical and artistic performance. As sole 3D artist on a team of 10, coordinated with story writers, concept artists, game designers to develop rapid prototypes, and work on visual concept development. Later modeled/sculpted, rigged, textured, animated, and implemented several game characters. Responsible for developing and documenting the design bible for character art, rigging and animation pipeline for future development. This includes designing a parent (master) rig to be re-usable on multiple characters in Maya, Blender, Unreal, and use Perforce for source control.

Lead Character Animator / Technical Rigging Artist – Freelance 2022 (Chicago IL)

Rigged and animated a non-humanoid multi-limbed character with complex locomotion for an indie CG live action short film. Worked directly with the producers and collaborated with other pipeline team members from concept art to composition

Modeler / Rigger / Animator – Freelance 2021 (Chicago IL)
Designed, rigged and skinned a limbless character specifically for VR motion capture

Technical Artist – Freelance – 2022 (Food Chain – Indie Game)
As a team of 5, was responsible for the technical aspects of the project including art direction and visual exploration. Later develop art assets, shading/lighting systems, with a focus on technical performance. All assets were designed to enable 2D / 3D hybrid visuals. Assets were developed in Unreal Engine, Maya, and Substance Painter

Character Animator/Technical Artist – Freelance – 2020 - 2021 (Interior Disaster – Animated Short Film)
As part of a team of 5, designed, modeled, and animated several non-humanoid characters. Along with 3D visualization, layout, and lighting for various scenes. This student led animated short film premiered at the L.A Student Film Awards and was officially selected and honorably mentioned at a number of other festivals. 

Character Animator – Freelance – 2019 - 2020 (Hominade – VR Animated Short Film)
As part of a 30-person animation team, animated non-humanoid characters for DePaul University award-winning student animated VR film featured in the 2020 Sundance Film Festival

Instructor / Counselor – ID Tech Camps May 2019 – August 2019 (Chicago IL)
Led students through Junior Game Development courses in Maya and Unreal Engine. Coordinated and created lesson plans with other instructors, and instructed classes of 5 – 10 students on a variety of subjects related to game design and asset creation
